Kindergartener Suspended from School

TODAY'S THING WE DON'T UNDERSTAND

How a plastic hatchet from a child's Halloween costume can be considered a weapon is beyond any stretch of our imagination. But it was...and that's why five-year-old Jordan Lock of suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was suspended for a day from kindergarten.

The boy went to Deer Lakes Elementary School in Curtisville last Friday dressed as a firefighter. His mother, Annette, tells the Pittsburgh Post Gazette she received a call from the school principal... saying there was a serious problem with Jordan's costume and that he was being suspended for violating the school district's weapons policy.

The suspension cost Mrs. Locke 22 dollars for a babysitter to watch the boy on his day of suspension.
