ALIEN VS. PREDATOR TOPS LIST OF FAVORITE SCARY HALLOWEEN FLICKS
SCREENSAVERS.COM® Releases Top 10 List to Help Halloween Fanatics Make Most of World’s Favorite Fright Night

Click Here!New York, NY – October 16, 2006 – It’s never too early to start planning for Halloween. According to search trends on Screensavers.com Halloween related queries began spiking as early as August. For those doubting the growing popularity of the holiday, consider that in the US alone, consumer spending on Halloween is forecast to be nearly $5 billion this year, up over $1.5 billion from a year ago (1). Among the fastest growing Halloween traditions, is the scary movie. To help viewers sort through their options, Screensavers.com® (http://www.screensavers.com), the world’s number one web site for screensavers, is releasing its list of Top 10 Most Popular Scary Movies based on tens of thousands of downloads from the site, according to HitBox Analytics. Data was collected from September 1st through October 13th.

Clearly having a familiar franchise (Alien vs. Predator, Freddy vs. Jason), successful sequels (Underworld Evolution, The Ring Two, Blade: Trinity), or familiar adaptations (Silent Hill, Van Helsing) is a key to grabbing a spot on the Screensavers.com’s list. Perhaps unexpectedly, at the other end of the spectrum are classics like Frankenstein and Psycho, which ranked 49th and 59th on Screensavers.com’s most downloaded scary movie list, respectively, suggesting that the new generation of fright film fans prefers to be scared in color.

"We believe that people's taste in scary movies changes every year. What is scary in the 90's is not scary anymore. People need new thrills and this year the battles of the Scary Movie icons are what’s getting peoples’ attention,” said Rob Roe, General Manager, Screensavers.com.

With more than 4 million U.S. unique users visiting the site every month according to comScore Media Metrix, Screensavers.com, which has been dubbed the “pop culture pulse-taker” by The Los Angeles Times, acts as an informal barometer of “what’s in, online.” Screensavers offers a wide variety of Halloween images, from favorite frightening films to a 3D haunted house, for personal computers.
Screensavers offers this unique insight into consumers’ favorite scary movies, ranked in order of popularity in downloads for 1st September to 13th October:

Top 10 Scary Movies

2. Freddy vs. Jason
3. Underworld Evolution
4. House of Wax
5. Silent Hill
6. The Ring Two
